With its plush comfort, modern tech features, and fuel-sipping performance, the used Ford Edge has everything going for it. When you’re shopping for a used midsized crossover, it’s tough to find another model that even comes close.

Second Generation: 2015-Current Model

These used Ford Edge models are the total package, delivering a refined performance, premium cabin materials, and plenty of space for a family of five. Compared to the previous generation, these used crossovers improved performance with increasingly sophisticated front and rear suspension and a stiffer body.

Used Ford Edge Second Generation

Inside these used Edge models, seating strikes an excellent balance between soft cushioning and long-term support. And upscale options, such as leather upholstery and heated seats, make your daily cruise a little more luxurious. Compared to previous models, this generation of Edge crossovers is also longer, which translates into greater passenger and cargo space for you and your loved ones.

This generation also rolled out a new engine lineup. The new base engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, balances fuel economy and speed. But used shoppers will also be able to find the more powerful 3.5-liter V6. The Sport trim model (which eventually becomes the ST) offers an exclusive turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine designed to take performance to the next level.

As this generation wore on, technology got better and better. Many cutting-edge features, like high-tech safety aids and infotainment gear, eventually became standard equipment.

As the second generation progressed, the Edge introduced new features and various changes. Here are a few things to look out for:

  • 2021: The new Sync 4 infotainment system becomes standard equipment. It includes a new 12-inch touch screen and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All trim models also add standard reverse parking sensors. The sporty Edge ST model gets a new seven-speed automatic transmission.
  • 2020: The sporty ST Line trim joins the lineup. Dual-zone automatic climate control becomes standard on every Edge. The CD player is officially discontinued.
  • 2019: This model year features new exterior design, including revised bumpers, new wheel designs, and a new grille. The new ST model replaces the Sport. Every Edge now comes standard with the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety aids, including lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.
  • 2016: Sync 3 replaces the MyFord Touch infotainment system. The Sport model now includes standard all-wheel drive. The four-cylinder engine gets stop-start technology, and the 3.5-liter V6 is no longer available on the base model.

First Generation: 2007-2014

These used Ford Edge model years also have a lot to offer, especially if you’re in the market for a reliable family hauler. From 2011 on, the Edge is down right luxurious, with a very quiet ride and upscale cabin materials. Earlier model years offer a great deal on family-friendly passenger space and modern utility features.

Used Ford Edge First Generation

Here’s a look at how the Edge evolved during this generation:

  • 2013: The base SE model now offers optional all-wheel drive.
  • 2012: Ford rolls out its first EcoBoost engine for the Edge, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that balances power with fuel economy.
  • 2011: This Edge marks the generation’s mid-cycle refresh. It introduces a ton of new features, including more powerful engines, a quieter ride, upgraded cabin materials, and new exterior styling.
  • 2009: The Sport trim model, with its focus on performance, becomes available. The Edge also rolls out an SOS Post-Crash Alert system, which activates the emergency flashers and horn after the airbags deploy.
  • 2008: This Edge adds more optional features, including the Sync voice control system, voice-activated navigation, and a power liftgate.
